From short-form discovery to long-form worlds

Short-form is cheap to make and fast to measure. If early signals predict who comes back, they can guide what deserves a longer story.

01

The question

Can responses to short scenes reveal which characters and worlds will sustain interest across episodes and longer stories?

Long-form storytelling is expensive. Choosing which characters and worlds to develop is one of the most important creative decisions we make.

A short scene that gets attention is not the same as a world people return to. We want to know which early signals separate the two.

02

Proposed method

  1. 1Release short scenes from candidate characters and worlds, and follow viewers who later encounter longer stories.
  2. 2Compare early signals, such as completion, replays and comments about the character, against returning-audience outcomes.
  3. 3Test whether a model trained on past characters predicts returning audiences for new ones.
03

What a good outcome looks like

A validated set of early signals that predicts returning audiences better than raw views do.
